HCM CITY — Viet Nam's leading biennial food and hospitality trade event, Food and Hotel Viet Nam, opened yesterday with a record number of 15 international group pavilions.
Organised by Singapore Exhibition Services and local Viet Nam partner VCCI Exhibition Service, the three-day trade event unveiled its sixth edition with 374 exhibitors, 74 per cent of which hail from 30 countries and regions.
Exhibitors included Australia, Belgium, France, Germany, Korea, Singapore, the US and a new pavilion from Poland, according to Bui Thi Thuc Anh, the director of VCCI Exhibition Service.
Food and Hotel Viet Nam 2011 is a premier event for domestic and international businesses that showcases the latest products and services to the Vietnamese market and cultivates important partnerships that can help businesses advance to greater heights.
Stephen Tan, chief executive of show organiser SES, said with the tourist numbers and hotel properties increasing in Vieât Nam, international visitors' expectations were also gradually growing.
Twenty-eight US exhibitors at the food exhibition are displaying a wide variety of American food, aiming to offer Vietnamese consumers more choices and advanced agricultural products.
Acting Under Secretary for the US Farm and Foreign Agricultural Services Michael Scuse said the exhibition helps promote sales from US companies and creates valuable opportunities for Vietnamese companies accessing into US market.
The exhibition will include many activities to enhance awareness and standards of Viet Nam's coffee, culinary and wine communities.
The second edition of Viet Nam Barista Competition 2011 and the fourth Viet Nam Culinary Challenge 2011 will contribute to the development of the event, both in size and quality.
Viet Nam's Best Sommelier Competition was held for the first time by the France Ministry of Agriculture and Sopexa, the official marketing and promotion arm for French food and wine.
The exhibition at the Sai Gon Exhibition and Convention Centre will close on Friday. — VNS
