From a receptionist to a CEO

Graduated with the red certificate of Commerce Law Falcuty (Hochiminh Law University), Mr. Vuong Huu Hung(35 years old, from Hau Giang province) chose his way as a receptionist.

 

After 5 years, he is recommended as the excellent sale manager.

 

 

After 5 years, from a receptionist, Hung is recognized as the best sale man of Vietnam by Marriott International Restaurant. He created the revenue that far excess from the target to 50% in two years. This is the big group with more than 2,300 hotels in 80 nations. Now he is the General Director of Fresh View (Training and Consultant Company).

 

The ambitious receptionist 

 

In 1999, after graduated, Vuong Huu Hung did an unbelievable thing: standing during 2 hours to apply in a five star hotel Renaissance Riverside as receptionist.

 

This job requires the patience and meticulousness. “You have to stand continuously in the long time. I chose this to train how to control the emotion and the personality” said Mr. Hung.

 

As a receptionist, when work off, employees will let the next one solve the other problems. Mr. Hung was different. He took note all of the troubles in his work-time, then, gave it to the next one. Even he stayed late to support the others and to ensure the work performed smoothly. “I always knew the reasons of the problems” said Mr. Hung. His enthusiasm caught his manager’s eyes. After 14 months, he was appointed as the order man, and then, 10 months later, he became the business operator. As a receptionist, this promotion is too fast. But according to Hung, the big achievement was the pale fade of certificate.

 

Huu Hung said that, when choosing this job, his family has met the shock and pressured him. Then, he broke up to his girlfriend because of the no potential future of a receptionist. He announced: “Today I am a receptionist, but I will be a director of a hotel tomorrow”.

 

No precedent

 

When being the business operator in Renaissance Riverside Hotel, he tried to fathom the secret of the best sale man. He decided to buy insurance for Prudential. He met difficulty when the first customer denied meeting him.

 

 The other customers also were in the same situation. “Customers do not like insurance service”. He did a survey and found the reasons of it. Finally, he succeed in this field.

 

Vuong Huu Hung continued to step into the restaurant and hotel services. There had a story about this man.

 

The Director of Northern area was a retired foreigner. To find a suitable one was not easy. He negotiated to Henry Lim (Director of Indochina area) that, he would become the director of Southern and also Northern sector. But, his reward for the success was the 85% of salary increasing and USA vacation for his family. Mr. Lim agreed.
