Difficulties in Vietnamese shrimp export

Till May, 2012, Vietnamese shrimp export reached 686 million USD, raised by 5.8% over the last same period. The growth speed still maintains many risks.

If the Government does not have the quick resolutions, the target of 2.5 billion USD in shrimp export in 2012 will be very hard.

Competition in price

Vietnamese shrimp exporters are facing up with many troubles because of the lower price in shrimp.

One of the reasons for the lower price is the death of shrimp in Mekong delta. The other reason is the competition pressure from the other shrimp exporters such as Thailand, Indonesia, India, and Ecuador.

In the meeting of VASEP in 12^th, June, 2012, Mr. Tran Van Linh, General Director of Thuan Phuoc Seafood and Trading Company said that, his company is offering the lower price of shrimp than the cost but still have no customer. Many people ask but the company should consider because the no profit. When the company accept to sell, the customers have changes their mind.

The risk of the lost market

From 1^st, January to 15^th, May, 2012, the positive picture has appeared in the Vietnamese shrimp export with the surprising growth: 186 million USD, raised by 25.8%. Japan is the biggest market of Vietnamese shrimp export. However, this market still exists many barriers.

Recently, Japan has issues some rules for only Vietnamese shrimp export.

Another potential markets

In recent months, Vietnam is finding the new potential markets, especially Asia. Thanks to the advantages of philosophy and the high consumption, from the beginning of the year, Vietnamese shrimp export is on its way of growth. The export value to China and Hongkong reached 79 million USD, rose to 4.1%. In Korea, it was 50.4 million USD, raised by 25.2%. In Taiwan, it was 20.3 million USD, raised by 3.9%. In ASEAN, the number is 12.3 million USD, increased to 8.9%.

In addition, it needs to keep an eye on the quality and safety of products. The better the quality is, the more quantity the customer is.
