Egypt-Vietnam trade revenues hit more than $200 mil

The trade turnover between Vietnam and Egypt reached over US$200 million in 2010, according to the Vietnam Trade Office in Egypt. Vietnam enjoyed a trade surplus of up to US$160 million, said the office.

The country's export to Egypt remained stable despite the impact of the global financial crisis. Its major export items included milk and dairy products, fibre, garment materials, leather and footwear, oil products, medicine, plastic materials, and products made from cereals.

In trading with Egypt, Vietnam fetched US$73 million from seafood, US$11 million from pepper, US$18.5 million from fuels and related products, and more than US$10 million from garments and textiles.

Egypt has a high demand for importing goods. Each year it imports tens of US dollars worth of products.

The Vietnamese trade counsellor in Egypt, Dang Ngoc Quang, said that in 2011, the Egyptian economy is likely to recover and develop strongly with an increased demand for imports.

He added the Vietnamese Ministry of Industry and Trade has planned to boost Vietnam's exports to Egypt by 20 percent in 2011.
