The country exported 110,000 tons of pepper worth US $390 million in 2010, up 17% against 2009, becoming the world’s biggest pepper exporter in the year, said Office Manager of the Việt Nam Pepper Association (VPA) Trần Đức Tụng. Vietnamese pepper currently accounts for 50% of the world’s pepper export volume and 30% of its output. Việt Nam’s biggest pepper importers include the US, Germany and the UAE. The country exported 196,000 tons of cashew nuts with a total value of US $1.1 billion last year, posting year-on-year growth of 10.8% and 34.8% respectively, said Nguyễn Đức Thanh, Chairman of the Việt Nam Cashew nuts Association (Vinacas). Cashew nuts of Việt Nam, the world’s biggest cashew exporter in the four straight years, is now available in over 50 countries and territories, including the US and China. Meanwhile, the country exported nearly 1.2 million tons of coffee, earning US $1.7 billion last year, or an increase of 4.5% and 1.5% respectively against the yearly set targets, said Chairman of the Việt Nam Coffee and Cocoa Association Lương Văn Tự. He added that Việt Nam now is striving to confirm its trade mark in the world market after many years ranking top in its export value.
